Part 1: Vocabulary words

1. person noun [pur-suhn]

an individual, a child, a man, a woman, or a human being

◼ Example: There is a person standing by the door.
◻ Note: How many persons are there in your house?

2. pie noun [pahy]

a baked food with fruit, meat or pudding filling usually prepared in a pastry-lined pan or dish often with a pastry crust on top

◼ Example: My mother baked a delicious pie.
◻ Note: Do you like eating pies?

3. Spanish adjective [span-ish]

referring to Spain, or its people or their language

◼ Example: Maria cooked paella, which is a Spanish dish.
◻ Note: It can also be a noun pertaining to the Spanish people collectively.

4. vegetable noun [vej-tuh-buhl, vej-i-tuh-]

fruit, seeds, roots, tubers, bulbs, stems, leaves, or flower parts of any kind of plant that are used for food; parts of plants that can be eaten

◼ Example: Children usually don’t like eating vegetables.
Adjective
Of, containing, or made from vegetables

◼ Example: I need to go on a vegetable diet to lose weight.
◻ Note: ‘Veggie’ is another term for vegetables.

5. wife noun [wahyf]

a married woman or a woman in relation to her husband

◼ Example: He’s very lucky to have a good wife.
◻ Note: The plural of ‘wife’ is ‘wives’.

6. writer noun [rahy-ter]

- someone who writes articles, books and stories for an occupation or a profession
- a writer of music

◼ Example: Shakespeare is my favorite writer.
◻ Note: Another word for ‘writer’ is ‘author’.

7. bookstore noun [book-stawr, -stohr]

a store where people can buy books

◼ Example: Let’s buy some books at the bookstore.
◻ Note: How often do you go to the bookstore?

8. camera noun [kam-er-uh, kam-ruh]

a device that is used to capture images of an object

◼ Example: His hobby is photography so he has a collection of cameras.
◻ Note: Do you have a camera?

9. clothes noun [klohz, klohthz]

garments people wear to cover their bodies

◼ Example: I have to buy new clothes for the party.
◻ Note: ‘Clothe’ is the verb form of clothes, which means to dress or to provide with clothing.

10. dish noun [dish]

an open and shallow container either made of pottery, glass, metal, wood, etc. used for holding or serving food that is prepared in a particular way

◼ Example: Sorry, Mom, I broke the dish.
◼ Example: Chicken adobo is a famous dish in the Philippines.
◻ Note: Do you wash the dishes?
