Part 1: Vocabulary words

1. Bargain verb (bar-gin)

to discuss the terms of a bargain; haggle; negotiate.

◼ Example: She loves going to the thrift shop because she can always bargain to her desired price.
◻ Note: Have you ever bargained before?

2. Invest verb (in-vest)

to invest is to put money into something that you expect will give you an income or profit

◼ Example: She invested her retirement money in a franchise food-chain business.
◻ Note: Investor (noun), Investable (adjective), Reinvest (verb)

3. Coordinate verb (koh-awr-dn-yet)

to coordinate is to arrange for things to all come together or to work with someone else to establish a common aim.

◼ Example: She coordinated the company’s National Convention with the other regional managers.
◻ Note: Couples should coordinate their plans together, including their finances.

4. Update verb (uhp-deyt)

to bring (a book, figures, or the like) up to date, as by adding new information or making corrections

◼ Example: We have to update the policies of the company because there have been many changes these past couple of years to the system.
◻ Note: How do you update yourself about the latest news?

5. Facility noun (fuh-sil-i-tee)

something designed, built, installed, etc., to serve a specific function affording a convenience or service

◼ Example: The notable improvement of the university is the building of the new research facility.
◻ Note: could be transportation facility; educational facility; health care facility, etc

6. Property noun (prop-er-tee)

goods or land, etc. considered as possessions

◼ Example: Real estate property costs are declining due to the bad economy.
◻ Note: Synonym: belonging

7. Access noun (ak-ses)

the ability, right, or permission to approach, enter, speak with, or use; admittance

◼ Example: Only the manager and supervisors have access to the files.
◻ Note: can be confused with excess and assess

8. Debris noun (duh-bree)

the remains of anything broken down or destroyed; ruins

◼ Example: There were debris of buildings and houses after the tsunami.
◻ Note: Synonym: litter, trash

9. Discredit verb (dis-kred-it)

to injure the credit or reputation of; to cause to be disbelieved, distrusted

◼ Example: There was a black propaganda to discredit honest politicians.
◻ Note: Synonym: disparage, disgrace, tarnish, undermine.

10. Returnee noun (ri-tur-nee)

a person who has returned

◼ Example: One returnee said that his decision to return was largely due to the infrastructure improvements.
◻ Note: Origin (American): return + ee
