Part 1: Vocabulary words

1. count verb (kau̇nt)

to calculate how many people or things there are in a group

◼ Example: He counted his money and put it back to his wallet.

2. delay noun (di-lā, dē-)

a situation in which something happens later or more slowly than you expected

◼ Example: The train was delayed because of a slight accident.

3. include verb (in-klüd)

to contain someone or something as a part

◼ Example: The promo sale doesn’t include the bed and sofa.

4. lend verb (lend)

If you lend someone something, they borrow it from you.

◼ Example: Joan lent me $100 when I lost my wallet.

5. pack noun, often attributive (pak)

to put your possessions into a bag, case, or box so that you can take or send them somewhere

◼ Example: I bought six packs of biscuits.

6. produce verb (prə-düs)

to cause something to happen

◼ Example: This machine produces loud sounds.

7. reach verb (rēch)

to get as high as a particular level or amount

◼ Example: The temperature today reached 36 degrees Celcius.

8. recover verb (ri-kə-vər)

to get back : regain

◼ Example: She has recovered from her illness after 2 months of staying in the hospital.

9. remain verb (ri-mān)

to continue to be in a particular situation or condition

◼ Example: They remained friends until death.

10. actor noun (ak-tər)

someone who performs in plays and films, especially as their job

◼ Example: Brad Cruise is my favorite actor.
