Part 1: Vocabulary words

1. concentrate verb [kon-suhn-treyt]

to give all one's energies and attention to one thing

◼ Example: I hope you will concentrate on the meeting.

2. confuse verb [kuhn-fyooz]

to cause to be unable to think clearly to understand; to mistake someone or something for another

◼ Example: The student completely confused the teacher by his questions.

3. contain verb [kuhn-teyn]

to have within; hold; to keep or have inside

◼ Example: This box contains a pair of shoes.

4. discuss verb [dih-skuhs]

to speak with another or others about

◼ Example: We will discuss the problems at the meeting.

5. include verb [in-klood]

to take in as a part, element, or member

◼ Example: I am glad that the management included our department on the list.

6. involve verb [in-volv]

to contain as a part; include

◼ Example: The interviewer told me that the job would involve travel.

7. perform verb [per-fawrm]

to do, to take action, to act

◼ Example: My favorite dance group will perform tomorrow morning on the “Wake up Show.”

8. refuse verb [ri-fyooz]

to indicate unwillingness to do, accept, give, or allow

◼ Example: They refused our dinner invitation.

9. suffer verb [suhf-er]

to feel pain or loss, injury, harm, or punishment

◼ Example: He suffered very bad pain from his injuries.

10. survive verb [ser-vahyv]

to remain alive or in existence in spite of a disaster, accident, etc.

◼ Example: Not all birds can survive the bad winter.
