Part 1: Vocabulary words

1. bill noun [bil]

a statement or list of fees or charges that should be paid

◼ Example: My credit card bill was delivered by the mail man yesterday.

2. center noun [sen-ter]

the middle, the part that is surrounded by the rest

◼ Example: You have to stand in the center of the stage.

3. choice noun [chois]

the person or thing chosen or selected; option

◼ Example: His bad choice of words made the teacher angry.

4. community noun [kuh-myoo-ni-tee]

a group of people living under the same government, district or locality

◼ Example: We have a nice and peaceful community.

5. condition noun [kuhn-dish-uhn]

a state of being, state of health

◼ Example: This house is not in good condition. The strong earthquake destroyed some of its parts.

6. department noun [dih-pahrt-muhnt]

a part or section of a government, university, office or shop; division of a large organization

◼ Example: The different departments in the government are expected to carry out the basic services of the government.

7. desert noun [dez-ert]

a dry place or region which has little rainfall and very hot temperatures, usually full of sand

◼ Example: The Gobi desert in Mongolia is the largest in Asia.

8. dessert noun [dih-zurt]

sweet food; fruits, sweets, ice cream, pastry, etc. served at the end of dinner.

◼ Example: We always eat ice cream for dessert.

a small part or an item; a particular
